The Role:

The Pool Assistant supports the delivery of high-quality swimming lessons by working closely with the Level 2 Swimming Teacher. This role provides both in-water assistance and poolside support to ensure lessons are safe, enjoyable, and aligned with the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, approachable, and passionate about helping others develop their confidence and ability in the water. The main focus of the role is to support swimming teachers in delivering safe, engaging, and effective swimming lessons, ensuring all participants feel supported, confident, and motivated while maintaining a high standard of safety and professionalism on poolside.

What does the role involve? 

A hands-on role that requires you to: 

• Assist the Level 2 Swimming Teacher in delivering structured and enjoyable swimming lessons. Provide in-water support to help participants with technique and confidence.

• Prepare equipment and ensure the teaching area is safe and ready for use.

• Support learners individually or in small groups during sessions.

• Promote a positive and inclusive environment for all swimmers.

• Observe and report learner progress and behaviour to the Swimming Teacher.

• To assist with the emergency evacuation of the pool, as directed by the Swimming Teacher, for example in the event of a fire alarm activation.

• Ensure adherence to all health and safety, and safeguarding procedures.

• Attend training and team meetings as required.

• Provide a safe, informative, fun and productive lesson.

• Be fully aware of the Centre's Normal Operating Procedures and Emergency Action Procedures.

• Uphold the expected standards, behaviours, and values of Horizon.

• As a Level 1 Swim Teacher, you will teach swimming following the Swim England Learn to Swim Framework.

Your Qualifications:

• Level 1 certificate in swim teaching (Desirable)

Your Experience:

• A passion for swimming and experience of working with children.

• To be a team player with a positive, can-do attitude.

• Ambition for continuous professional development.

• To be available and be able to work evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

This role will be based at Waterlooville but will be expected to travel to other company site as the need requires.
